Having a website that sits in cyberspace unpromoted is not only a waste of time, but also extremely frustrating. For years, I’ve been intrigued by the idea of affiliate marketing. It took me a long time to overcome all of the hard traps involved in actually getting started, (the biggest one being that I am a cyber-dinosaur — my only real experience using computers for anything other than glorified type-writing involved Fortran IV and IBM punch cards nearly thirty years ago).
Affiliate Marketing Strategies: Create A List.
This strategy is the most important step in making money in the long run. If you don’t already have an autoresponder system, you should get one. Don’t be cheap either, because your entire business will be dependent on this single piece of software.
You can create your list in a variety of ways. You can purchase leads from reputable list building companies and have them delivered to your autoresponder. Most good list building services will send an email to your autoresponder. Try to choose wisely so you don’t have to manually enter the leads’ information.
Another effective way to build your list, is through traffic to your website. This step, which is most likely the most effective, consists on implement an opt-in list form. Of course, if your Affiliate program provides a list management service, you can direct traffic to the affiliate URL, but I don’t recommend it because you won’t be able to send special offers to the entire list.
To get the most signups from your opt-in form, include it in the text of your sales page. It should be strategically placed in the sales text, following the presentation of a problem. Your autoresponder email series’ title should address the issue by offering a solution. In the following example, let’s assume I’m selling a hosting package, and want opt-in subscribers to my email course for back-end sales.

When I say traffic, I don’t mean just any traffic; I really mean people who are motivated and ready to buy. This type of traffic can and will make you money because it’s a targeted traffic. To drive targeted traffic to your website, you can use programs and techniques such as Google Adwords, blogging and article writing. Google is providing a service called Google Adwords, and it allows you to pay to appear in search results if your specific keywords are typed in the search engine.
The key to using Adwords is to avoid bidding on popular keywords. Instead, look for much less frequently used keywords that still describe your website. These keywords will be much less expensive to bid on, allowing you to spread your money across a wide range of keywords and get the most bang for your buck. You can use this handy little tool to locate similar keywords.
Create and manage a blog.
Another great way to drive targeted traffic to your website is to blog. To maximize the effectiveness of this technique, you should be hosting your blog on the same website as the sales page that links to your affiliate program. After that, all you have to do is fill your blog with high-quality content.
I recommend creating your own content that is relevant to your affiliate program and/or products. Once you have some content, you should submit your RSS feed to as many blog search engines as possible. This makes your blog available to other webmasters for use as content feeds on their websites.
This win-win situation enables webmasters to have high-quality content on their websites, increasing the value of the website while driving targeted traffic directly to you.
You can accomplish this through the URL link that you conveniently placed under your name, after writing the blog. This means thousands of websites will share your link using a blog feed. Not only do people click on those links, but you also get rewarded with a higher page rank because Google also sees them and assumes you’re popular.
Article writing is similar to blogging, except that the information in an article must be more useful and peppered with keywords that webmasters are looking for. After you’ve finished your article, you’ll submit (syndicate) it to content sites rather than blog search engines.
Webmasters visit content sites to find specific content to offer their readers. If you’re a good writer, you might be able to make a name for yourself and strike a deal with a webmaster to write exclusives for his site. His readers benefit from great exclusive content, and you benefit from highly motivated targeted traffic.
Creating backlinks for your website.
Linking is one of the most common methods of increasing traffic and page rank. However, if done incorrectly, you risk harming your Google page rank and losing potential buyers. For this technique, you will need your own website, as well as a links page to place your reciprocal links on.
Many people submit URL links to link farms in an attempt to fool Google into giving them a higher page rank. It doesn’t work, google penalize websites that engage in these activities.
The key to linking is to find websites in your niche market with a Google page rank of 4 or higher, and contact the webmaster to include your link on their website. You may believe that you are assisting your competitors, and you are correct. However, your competitors would be assisting you as well. It’s better to send leaving traffic to a partner rather than simply closing their browser window. Also keep in mind that this works both ways.
The affiliate marketing strategies listed in this article work, and if implemented correctly, they will increase your sales and residuals. Reciprocal linking, blogging, and article writing are all excellent ways to drive massive amounts of targeted traffic to your website. These affiliate marketing strategies, when combined with an effective sales page and an integrated opt-in email list, can propel your company to new heights.
